not just another cold

I started feeling sick Monday evening, and spent about 7-8 hours in bed on Tuesday. The overwhelming fatigue has been combined with nasty congestion, coughing due to the congestion, and chills bad enough to make me want to climb into the fireplace. My appetite has been nonexistent. Last night I wore a long sleeved shirt to bed, and very early this morning it was so sweat-drenched that I had to take it off because it was getting clammy. I've not felt as bad as I did Tuesday, so I think that was the worst of it, but this is unlike any cold I've ever had. SO maybe it's the flu, or that flu-like thing that seems to be going around. Thankfully I haven't been throwing up, though yesterday I wished I would. The kids have the same thing, but seem to be holding up okay. Yesterday was the first day I tried to get some housework done, so by evening I was exhausted again. David feels like he is coming down with something, too, but hopefully he won't get as bad a case as I have. He has a pretty tough immune system. I think moms should be invincible. Is there anything harder than being sick and trying to stay sane enough to take care of sick kids? I don't know how long this is supposed to last, but I'm hoping I'm near the end of it.

spots, take 2

Spud showed his first spots yesterday, so now we are in round 2 of chicken pox. It was almost funny, as when I noticed the first one, I could only find about 6 total. By this morning, though, he was officially spotted. He's holding up well, though right now he has a fever.

a pox upon your house!

Oh wait, it's a pox upon MY house. Noodle has chicken pox, poor thing. She has LOTS of spots, but she is hanging in there and doing all right. Hopefully it will pass quickly.

a mom without a voice...

is like a . . . well, it's like a . . .

Well, although I can't complete my comparison, I do know what it's like, and it's REALLY difficult. I'm now acutely aware of how many questions Noodle asks me on an average day. Lots. I thought I was okay to whisper back, but according to WebMD and Wikipedia, whispering is WORSE than talking in a soft voice because whispering irritates/strains the vocal cords more. Poop. And we have some friends coming over in a little over an hour. I don't know that I can be much of a hostess.

oh to be healthy again!

August has not been a good month for me. I started out with a case of shingles, which gratefully was a mild case, and I did get to meet the nicest doctor ever at the clinic, but the antibiotic he gave me in addition to the antiviral medication to treat the shingles gave me a yeast infection. That cleared up at the end of last week, but Monday morning I woke up with an awful sore throat and my eyes had goobers on them. I think it's just a really bad head cold, causing drainage and buildup everywhere, along with chills and general achyness. I'm finally started to feel a bit better today, but still have the sore throat and keep sweating in weird places at odd times. I'm normally a very healthy person, so this series of illnesses has been particularly annoying. Perhaps I wasn't being grateful enough for my good health. Spud has been sick this week, too, which means I've not had the greatest nights sleep this week, either.
