So it occurred to me to look on YouTube for the clip that inspired the title of my blog. I absolutely love this movie. If it were even possible for me to make a short list of favorite films, this would be on it.
I just wish the clip started a bit sooner. I guess you'll have to watch the movie if you haven't already.
whoa. This is my 502nd post. I'm a little tripped out by that. I should have been more attentive and celebrated my 500th. Oh well. I'm not very ceremonial anyways.

I must say that I did wonder about your title :).
I sort of thought the title was something one of your kids said. After seeing the clip, I remember that part of the movie and why I liked it so much. Here's to another 502 posts - cheers!
I didn't remember that line. I remember seeing it when it came out and part of me just REFUSING to accept that he was as good as it could get. It made me so mad...kind of the way 12 year olds being married off to old men throughout history has.
But in the intervening years I've seen different ways of looking at the movie. It's not ALL abhorrent to me like it was upon 1st viewing.
May you never stop blogging! ♥
thanks for the thoughts, ladies. :o)
blue, I never really thought about Jack Nicholson's character being as good as it gets. I've always just liked the messy reality of the movie, and how life doesn't always take us where we hoped to go. You can spend your time angry and bitter about that, or you can just say, "Well, this is my life, and I'm going to make the most of it and enjoy it." That's what all three of the main characters do. None of them had the life they'd probably dreamt of, but they decide to do the best with what was available to them at the time. Life is messy and we can't always get what we want...(cue music) but sometimes we get what we need. :o)
Ok, am I totally the biggest idiot if I've never seen that movie. I don't even know what it is called. I must be educated. :)
Kathryn, the movie is "As Good as it Gets," I think it came out in 1997. I love it, but I like "real" movies with messy stories, and a lot of people don't like that.
i also like "real" movies with messy stories. i generally loathe movies that lack elements of genuine humanity.
Dean, I'm not super picky, but the movies that really resonate with me are ones with messiness. Have you seen "Waitress"? I love that one!
i haven't seen it. i'll but it on my netflix cue.
